September was good to me. It was hard, but it was worth it. How have you been? Has it been a whirlwind for you too? Let’s talk about what we’ve learned.
1. Sometimes you have to take a step back.
I don’t know about you, but when I think of progress I think of moving forward. I mean, that’s how we’ve been taught to see it: one foot in front of the other. But there are moments in life when moving forward isn’t the best option. Its important to find the right pace for you. Take your time. There’s no rush.
2. Communication is key.
I’m the queen of holding in all of my feelings… and I have a lot of feelings. Sometimes that’s okay, but other times its a problem. If you’re anything like me, then we’re going to need a lot of practice. You have to verbalize your feelings and your needs. Take some time to sit with your feelings and figure it out. Then choose your words wisely and communicate them to the people who need to know.
3. Perfection isn’t the goal. Learning is.
I’ve said it before and I will keep saying it until I actually believe it: I don’t have to be perfect. Its one of those things that I know with my head, but in practice I’m way too hard on myself. Whenever I make a mistake, forget something, or stumble along my journey I beat myself up more than I need to. I have to accept that mistakes are part of life. I’ve learned more about myself in those moments than I ever have when things are going well. You will never know how much you can handle or how strong you are until you go through some things. You can only see how brightly you shine when you’re surrounded by darkness. I don’t need to be perfect. I just need to keep learning.
